Target Audience?

The film has been given a 12A certificate. Therefore it is suitable for audiences over 12 and under 12 with parental supervision. Monsters is a science-fiction movie, so people who are interested in aliens and space threats would be attracted to this film.

In other parts of the world the film is credited 12. This means that even without the parent the young person will not be able to see the film if they are accompanied by an appropriate adult

Production

The film was devised, storyboarded and directed by Gareth Edwards.
He also worked as the visual effects artist.
Allan Niblo and James Richardson of Vertigo Films work as producers on the production.
The filming equipment cost approximately $15,000, with the budget coming in at under $500,000.
The film was able to be made on such a low budget due to the use of prosumer cameras to capture digital video rather than the more expensive 35mm film. Any settings featured in the film were real locations often used without permission asked in advance, and the extras were just people who happened to be there at the time.
There were only two cast members Whitney Able as Samantha Wynden, and Scoot McNairy as Andrew Kaulder.
The film was shot in Belize, Mexico, Guatemala, Costa Rica and Texas in the US, over three weeks.
Marketing and Distribution

Monsters premiered at the ‘South by South West’ festival on the 18th March 2010.
But the day beforeMagnet realising required the rights for the North American distribution.
It premiered in the U.K at the Edinburgh national film festival on the 18th June 2010.
Social network ‘four square’ was announced view entertainment and Cineworld cinemas set up infected locations which gave user access to exclusive Monsters content and the chance to win random on the spot prizes.
In the opening weekend for ‘Monsters’, it took in $20,508 (USA). This meant that there was a Gross profit of $237,301.
The trailer for the movie gives us as the audience an idea of what it is going to be about. We can see that it is set in numerous different settings and that it will maybe have a spooky feel to it.
